(VER-ih-kund) Adjective: -Modest, bashful, shy. From Latin verēcundus diffident, from verērī to fear. 16th century. Used in a sentence: “Until Niles is able to overcome his verecund nature, he and Daphne are doomed to languish in la douleur exquise.”
