Sisyphean

Sisyphean (SIS-ih-FEE-yen) Adjective: -Relating to Sisyphus, king of Corinth. -Extremely difficult to the point of futility. Noun form: Sisyphism From Sisyphus, Greek Sisyphos, who was the terrible king of Corinth. Foolishly, he offended Zeus and was consequently condemned to Hades where he was made to roll a stone uphill in perpetuity. The stone was so heavy that when Sisyphos reached the top of the hill, the stone would push him back to the bottom. Sisyphos is damned to perform this task over and over for all of eternity… Used in a sentence: “As a third grade substitute teacher, it is a sisyphean chore to keep these kids in their seats and on-task!”
