Mellifluous

Mellifluous (mel-LIF-loo-us)

Adjective:

-Having a smooth rich flow.

-Filled with something that sweetens.

From Middle English mellyfluous, from late Latin mellifluus (from mel 'honey' + fluere 'to flow') + -ous.

Used in a sentence:

"Her rich, mellifluous voice is truly an asset when it's time to honeyfuggle."

This sweet sounding word originally referred to honey flowing over the tongue, but over time, it has come to be associated with the sweetness of speech. So if you're a smooth talker, you are mellifluous.

Without honey, we wouldn’t have this word...and without bees, there will be no honey (or any other food). Raise awareness with our new Bee a Love, Plant a Flower T-Shirt from Grandiloquent Mercantile!
